The design of this dress has much in common with the retro silhouettes of the 1950s—a time when it was common to pair a full skirt with a shirt top. In Ushatava's interpretation, the waist seam is not horizontal but curved to change the character of the hem: in the Basic 50s dress, it is asymmetrical, moving, and flowing. The shirt can be buttoned all the way to the band collar, which develops into a long ribbon—our favorite design technique.
The dress is made of dress fabric with a smooth, matte finish. The polka dots are not a print; they are the result of a pressing. Heat treatment makes the fabric smoother, with a slight pearlescent sheen.
